|Abstract: The best known Ecuadorian gold artifact is the
head ornamen with a face and sunbeams wich is at the present the
symbol of Central Bank Museum in Ecuador. Accoding to its label
this head ornament was found at La Tolita. However inforrnation
from historical documents, archaeology, looters and collectors
indicates that the artifact was found al Sigsig in the southern
Sierra. This head ornament and another from Manabita coast evidence
problems related to cultural and technological reconstruction based
on looted artifacts.
