|Abstract: The best known Ecuadorian gold artifact is the head ornamen with a face and sunbeams wich is at the present the symbol of Central Bank Museum in Ecuador. Accoding to its label this head ornament was found at La Tolita. However inforrnation from historical documents, archaeology, looters and collectors indicates that the artifact was found al Sigsig in the southern Sierra. This head ornament and another from Manabita coast evidence problems related to cultural and technological reconstruction based on looted artifacts.
