The monstrance of the San Ignacio de Bogotá Church is commonly known as "The Lettuce". It was made by José de Galaz, the master goldsmith of Spanish origin, who took close to seven years to finish it (1700-1707).

With a weight of 4,902.60 grams, it has 1,485 emeralds, I sapphire, 13 rubies, 28 diamonds, 62 baroque pearls, and 168 amethysts.

It was acquired by the Banco de la República in 1985 and is on display at the Bank's Luis Angel Arango Library.

It is considered as one of the most splendid and beautiful religious pieces in South America. Photograph by Julio César Flórez

T he Big Monstrance of Santa Clara la Real from Tunja was made by the Spaniard Nicolás Burgos between 1734 and 1737.

It weighs 4,230.72 grams, and has 750 big emeralds, numerous small emeralds, 37 diamonds, 2 rubies, 42 amethysts, 6 topaz and nearly 600 pearls.

It was recovered in 1987, after having been secretly taken out of the country. It is now exhibited at the Bank's Luis Angel Arango Library, according to the wish of the Council of National Monuments.
